Clinical Study Participants

The Friedman Diabetes Institute is interested in helping people with diabetes initiate new healthy behaviors that can become a part of their lives. We know that while making changes can be difficult, keeping them going can be the real challenge. That is why we want to find ways to support the changes you make over time.

Starting in early 2008, we will begin enrolling eligible Beth Israel Medical Center patients in a study based on an online diabetes self-management program we have designed. In one of the phases of the study, the program provides a framework for people to track their activities and progress online as they make small practical changes in their life. It also provides the opportunity for each person to receive social support through a private online message board and weekly email contact with a diabetes educator as individual questions arise.

The program addresses the many factors involved in creating a healthy lifestyle when living with diabetes. Over a nine month period there will be time to try different activities in the areas of Diet/Nutrition, Stress Reduction, Exercise/Movement, Social Life and Community, Creativity and Spirituality. All these aspects of life are addressed because each part of your life contributes to your health, supports your ability to make changes, and builds your resilience.
